Trip to Slant Rock Isle [Past] - Magikeeper - 01-27-2016

The stolen boat debacle proves to have been the last bit of excitement in the day - the journey to Casanov's place is quite boring in comparison.

"We're here." proclaims Dalton, the hunter traveling with the group of mercenaries.  The harbor-front warehouse before them would be the first and last rest stop before tomorrow's journey to slant rock isle.

It looked.. abandoned. Boarded up windows, shoddy paint job, everything about the place save for the sign on the door suggested it hadn't been used for years.

The sign, however, read as follows:

This is not an abandoned warehouse.
There is a legitimate abandoned warehouse about a quarter mile south of here, please follow the instructions below
|
V

Below the sign was a map of the area showing how to get to the legitimately abandoned warehouse.

Dalton sighs. "I don't know why Casanov thinks that sign is going to result in less people breaking into the place."

Lilly smirked at Dalton.

"You'd be amazed the things some people will do to avoid paying for a good lock."

RE: Trip to Slant Rock Isle - Darby - 01-27-2016

"This looks like a great place to be murdered in your sleep. I think I might follow the sign to the legitimately abandoned warehouse, take my chances there."

RE: Trip to Slant Rock Isle - Kage - 01-28-2016

Kage amusedly raises one eyebrow at Lily as he spoke. "They make good locks? Haven't found them myself. What usually works is get someone to electrify the entrances. Makes a great light show. Anything we need to do for the evening before we turn in? Like is there a procedure to not get stabbed while you sleep here?"

RE: Trip to Slant Rock Isle - Magikeeper - 01-28-2016

Dalton takes out a key and begins working on the lock. It sounds rusted. "If you want to set one up you can. I wouldn't suggest going to that other warehouse though, not with all the gang warfare going on."

The inside of the building is a bit dusty, but it otherwise looks much better maintained than the outside. The dock as a whole is about 50'x75', with the back 30' being a small indoor shipping dock connected to the harbor proper by a sealed gate.

To the right of the entrance are two leathery tents with closed flaps. The sides of the tents have a few small sharks painted onto them, although the designs look more like someone was practicing anatomical designs of various species that trying to create art. The internal cross-sectional view on the flap of the second tent is especially.. precise.

To the left of the entrance is a raised area, about 10' high and 20' wide/long, furnished with a bed and a short desk. Beneath the area is Casanov's work station - tables, maps, some cabinets, other shark-watching equipment, teeth and other samples, and a small shark sculpture made of hardened clay. Some tarps are set up to be pulled down over the work area. The rest of the warehouse consist of crates and open space, with more crate piles on the left than on the right.

Dalton takes a deep breath "Oh good, he got rid of the decaying carcasses."

Casanov doesn't appear to have arrived yet.

RE: Trip to Slant Rock Isle - Kage - 01-29-2016

Kage just nodded. He spoke to Kaia {Yeah, please don't let me get stabbed as we wait for the morning. Ok?} as he set about finding a location that didn't put him next to shark stuff to rest.

RE: Trip to Slant Rock Isle - Magikeeper - 01-30-2016

Kage's options are to sleep surrounded by crates, near the water, surrounded by shark stuff / drawings, or on the raised platform where Casanov's bed is. The crates and the raised area may or may not contain unseen shark stuff, however... and the water may or may not contain sharks.

{...will do.} The spirit didn't sound very concerned. After all, none of this looked like.. wait. A ping of confusion waves over Kage, followed by the smokey fairy suddenly emerging from the sword. "Hey, what does Casanov do for a living, anyway? Shark drawings can't be that lucrative a business."

"Ah, good question." Dalton takes a seat on one of the chairs in the work area. "He has this wealthy patron whose kid he saved a couple years ago. Lucky man. He-"

The water gate begins to open. "-about time he showed up. Right, he can tell that tale himself. Let's get back to planning our approach to the island. He pulls back out the map. "From this location we can either reach it from the west or the southern sides. North is also a possibility. As the name implies, slant rock is about 200' above the water on the western edge and only barely above the sea on the other. Maybe half a mile wide. The battle with the pirates was east of the island. Most of the hunting groups approached it from the south, however, as there's an old dock in the middle. I suppose we could also stop at one of the nearby villages. I heard there's an underground path to the western caverns."

RE: Trip to Slant Rock Isle - Kage - 01-30-2016

"While everything safe makes sense to go in from east or south at the dock, that would also be the perfect feeding ground for an underwater creature. West would likely be less noticed by it as few would likely try and climb up. That or find the cavern. I suggest one of those paths as the others might end up getting eaten." Kage said.

RE: Trip to Slant Rock Isle - Darby - 02-01-2016

Darby had chosen to sleep with the shark paraphernalia, figuring that if he were to be assailed in the night, at least his assailant would have to navigate the creepiness minefield first.

"I'd be alright with the western entrance. A little climbing never killed anyone. Well, except for people who slip and fall long distances, which happens sometimes. But other than that ... Oh, I guess some people have been injured by climbing under strenuous circumstances, trapped under boulders, eaten by vultures, kicked by goats, but all in all I think the climb is the safest route."

RE: Trip to Slant Rock Isle - Lilly Mato - 02-03-2016

"How do we know about this tunnel? If its anything more secure than common rumour, I'd say its worth considering."

Lilly had been pacing around the area, looking at and around things with a look that suggested... polite distaste.
