Hayze felt a wave of appreciation come over him, something he hadn’t personally felt in a long time. It was one of those feelings he had isolated to his shadow, who was currently affecting his mind more than usual.
He then purposefully waited for Nathaniel to answer Ria’s question first while he piled his plate and dug in. When attention was turned to him he ended up answering readily, after swallowing what was in his mouth. “I’m from the desert. Verto.”
Saying this reminded him of what was important to him in Verto. His train of thought then lead him to his mission in Tiburon. At that, a sudden sense of guilt hit him, another feeling he had forgotten.
Ria nodded to both Nathaniel and Hayze, "You are a tad different than a normal Bear shifter. Hmm.. Wilhelm... it rings a bell, but I cannot recall anything specific. I apologize, it must have been awhile since I visited. I am familiar with many different kinds of shifters. I once knew someone who merged with a dolphin.... I think that's the most unique one I have met. I have also been to Verto many times! I am from... well from all over. I have been traveling around for a very long time, but this realm is my home. I have met many different kinds of people, it is exciting to meet new people, so I decided to build the inn off my home to help people, and give them a home away from home for however long they need. I try to be equipped with anything needed, beds, food, company, smithy, I can repair clothes pretty good.. and so on.. Guess that's a bit odd of me to want to help everyone. So what brings you to the forest? Adventure? Fun? Just cause?" Ria smiles happily as she eats her meal.
"I was going through the forest because I was on my way to Forvaros. You see, before I left, my teacher gave me an errand to run for her. I'm supposed to meet an acquaintance of hers. But the reason I actually left was because I wanted to explore the land. See interesting things, such as your amazing pocket tavern." Nathan finishes his answer and finally digs in, piling his plate with all of the various foods.
The answer to her question came into his mind and the guilt deepened. How could he possibly explain what had brought him here? If they only knew what he was, they wouldn’t be sitting here cordially, chatting away. He could never tell them that he was laying low because he just murdered someone in a nearby town. But he couldn’t lie either.
He looked down at his plate. He had only eaten a few bites but his appetite had vanished. He looked up again to see smiling faces.
And he snapped.
His shadow was violently forced away from him, flying across the room and settling in a corner. His thoughts of guilt vanished. All joy from the pleasantness of new friends went with it. He stood up, knocking his chair over and stumbled away from the table towards the door. “I have to go.” He growled, heading out the door without looking back.

Ria nodded and smiled as Nathaniel was talking "Seeing interesting things is a lot of fun. I am so glad you are traveling and experiencing them. If you ever pass me in your travels feel free to pop in and say hello again! I am working on finding a good way to find this place better." She then jumped and became wide eyed when Hayze suddenly lashed out. She watched him begin walking away feeling terrible that she struck a nerve. She got up to move but Silkie told her to stay and darted off quickly ahead of her and caught up with Hayze before he left, leaving the music player back in the dining room.
Silkie pushes air towards Hayze to speak with him, she tried to calm him down, "Ria is very sorry, she did not mean to ask such personal questions! She is only excited! She will ask no more of you! She doesn't not care what you did before here. She is a good person. She has.... things too she hides. This is a safe place. Please at least take some jerky with you if you must go. Ria would be sad to see you and your shadow leave hungry."
Ria sat back down and looked down at her food, she calmed her nerves and looked at Nathaniel and the shadow that was cowering in the corner, she looked a bit sad. "Please let me know if I ask too personal of questions. I do not mean to pry.. Everyone has a secret or two, no matter how big or small. I respect that. If you ever feel uncomfortable answering my questions then just refrain. I will not judge. I was just excited to meet new people." She smiles weakly, unsure of what else to add then looks directly at his shadow, "Please let him know I am deeply sorry." Ria uses telekinesis to lift the chair back up and onto its feet, placing it back at the table.
Hayze was angered by the words hitting his ears from the fairy. He hated himself for being so transparent in his outburst. Or perhaps Ria was just particularly discerning. Whatever the case, he was leaving.
The shadow listened to Ria speak for a moment before racing out of the Inn after Hayze. It moved under his feet and attempted to reassert itself in Hayze’s mind. He stumbled, falling to a knee. Then his head slowly turned in the direction of the voice. ”This... IS a safe place...” He agreed, the words coming out labored. ”But not for you... as long as I’m here...” The shadow looked as if it was struggling to stay connected to Hayze’s feet. ”The drawing... of you... Could I have it?” The shadow asked hopefully, using Hayze’s mouth. Hayze would probably never purposefully come back to this place. And although his interaction with Silkie was brief and indirect, the shadow wanted... something... he could remember her by.

Silkie was a bit sad he was leaving, but did not want him to be forced to stay, "Oh.. the picture? Yes if you wish! Let me go get it! She darts back in and grabs a bag of jerky and some bread, and also the drawing. She floats them back out and lets Hayze have the items. "Please come back and visit again! We would like it! I hope one day you feel safe enough! Let me help you out of the forest, at least a little!" Silkie darts out of the portal and a small ripple can be seen as she exits, she floats a bit away making sure Hayze follows, slowly getting more visable. When she hits 30' she becomes fully visable. She is smiling and seeming to just float, she waves at them and then pushed air towards them to speak. "Please have a safe trip! Wherever you go!"
The shadow was shocked when Silkie returned with the drawing. He thought it was a stretch to ask for something so precious. He had an overwhelming desire to keep the drawing safe. And he realized a way to do it.
As Silkie approached, the shadow detached from Hayze and moved toward her. He lay in the shape of a man reaching out his hand to accept the gifts. When she put them down, the items slowly sank into the shadow. He was confident the drawing would be perfectly safe now.
Hayze had already begun walking toward the portal. The shadow wasn’t sure how Silkie was going to lead them out, until he noticed a faint ripple in the air. He then raced ahead of Hayze and joined Silkie as she moved away from the portal. He watched intently as she seemed to gain substance and finally become fully visible.
Hayze walked by without seeming to notice the now visible Sylph. But the shadow remained, on the ground, just in front of her in the shape of a man. He waited until Hayze was so far away that he began to feel an irresistible pull toward him. Just before he was forcible pulled in the direction Hayze was walking, he raised his hand and waved.
Silkie smiles sadly and pushes wind towards the shadow hoping he can hear, "Please come back soon.. She waits until they are out of view and then goes back into the portal to Ria to make sure she is okay.
"I'm fine, but I hope that man is ok too. Some people's personal lives are complicated, so don't feel bad that he reacted bad to the question." Nathan said, wondering what happened to that garnered such a reaction out of an innocuous question.
Ria nods and smiles softly, "Thank you for the comforting words. I hope he is alright as well. As for you... I do have a curious question... what is that fabric and fluff that you have stuck in your hair? I normally see people walk in here with some leaves or sticks stuck in their hair but.. it looks like you were not climbing in a tree or anything. Do you need anything stitched up? She gets up and reaches over to him slowly and gently pulls out a piece of fabric and some fluff out of his hair. She thought maybe he ripped a shirt or something, she knew how to sew and could maybe repair it.
