"Alright, alright." Dalton holds up both of his hands in a calming motion before continuing. "I've been gathering information on the dragon for a while now, noticed that Garza wanted to investigate the same area. I-"
Garza slams his fist onto the table, the man's third shot of Tiburon Taut and a more transient helping of riotous anger washing away his nervousness. "YOU JUST WANTE-"
"Woah, woah, calm down Garza. Everything I said is still tru-" Dalton ducks as Garza throws his glass at him. The patron behind him, about 6'4" in height and heavily scarred, is not so fortunate. The large man looks back at the group with big, pitiful eyes.
A voice cries out from a group of men (who were) playing poker across the room. "HEY! Someone just threw a glass at Gentle John!"

Lillith did not like the tone of that exclamation at all, her hand slipping down towards Old Reliable as she turned on her stool to look over at the poker players.
"Just a little friendly fire gents. How about we cover your next round?"

"AND PAY FOR THE GLASS!" shouts the bartender from behind his counter.
Gentle John raises his hand as well. "I'd..*sniffle*.. like a drink, if you wouldn't mind."
The poker players look at each other and then back towards Lillith. "You're lucky John's a nice guy. I suppose we'll let it slide at that. But don't let it happen again!" The others at the poker table nod approvingly towards the speaker, a short man with a beat-up cap and pair of hatchets at his hip.
Meanwhile, Dalton had calmed down Garza by passing him a pouch full of gold while noting "Look here. I'm sorry, alright?". He was now offering the his prospective employer some additional wine (he must have acquired it earlier), the hunter's hand staying near the aforementioned gold pouch.

"Well, that went better than I figured it was going to go. Back to providing us with the information?" Kage asked from a calm position after the drink situation had been solved.

Dalton hold up a finger, mouthing "just a moment" before continuing to calm down Garza. There are a few more almost-yells, but Dalton succeeds in getting the squat man calm and drunk enough to not mind the hunter putting back the pouch he'd showed him a few minutes earlier.
"Okay, so here's what I know: my friend Casanov loves sharks. He might know of every group of them in the area, in fact. Why this matters is that sharks can sense blood in the water from far away. A few breeds can even differentiate between regular and more magical blood, or at least Casanov swears they can. The night Bertie died a whole mess of sharks started swimming towards the island. There also haven't been any sightings of this dragon, which suggests it isn't of the flying variety. With those things in mind, I'm betting this is because the dragon was either injured and in the water, or it killed Bertie's crew in the water. Either way, it swims."
Garza yawns a bit - apparently getting drunk makes him sleepy - but motions for Dalton to continue.
"Checking Casanov's notes, I noticed some sharks had also made a break in the general direction of the island the night the first merc group died. Combined with the lack of sightings I bet - but wouldn't wager my life on it - that the dragon hunts at night. The last thing you should know is I've got a number of tools prepared to hunt the dragon should it come down to it. Make no mistake - I don't want to hunt it now. Like Garza here I would rather go to the island, confirm my suspicions, and then come back another time."

"Yeah, hunting dragons in the dark while in the water is not something I want to do either. What is our plan to get onto the island and confirm the pirates? And who knows that they are even alive? Or are we assuming the dragon hasn't eaten them yet?" Kage asked in a casual voice. It seemed the thought of either course didn't bother him, just more that he wanted to know what he was getting into.

Lilly had turned back to the table, draping herself forward with fingers interlaced before her.
"We are talking about a pirate crew here; a crew member or two being eaten alive is the perfect distraction to flee to shore."

"Wait, you're suggesting we wait until the dragon starts eating the pirate crew, who are already on the shore, and while it is distracted, we flee to the shore? Where the dragon eats people? Or are you suggesting that we bring our own pirate crew, allow them to be eaten on our boat, and then flee to the shore?"

"I mean, if you have a spare pirate crew lying around, sure. I was more suggesting that if a ship full of criminals was attacked by a dragon, they wouldn't all stay and lay down their lives on principle. Our shifter friend here wondered if the crew would even be alive; I'm betting even if they were attacked, most of them are still alive."

"Oh, you were suggesting the pirate crew fled to shore, not that we should use the inevitable dragon attack as a distraction for US to flee to shore. Gotcha. Didn't I order more drinks than this? I feel like these glasses are emptier than they used to be."
