[Tiburon] [U] The Sunken Barrel Tavern
#71
Ryker jumped in the boat and turned to look at the men, but decided to ignore them. If they were going to stop him, they'd have to catch him. He began untyino the ropes and preparing to leave from the dock. Ryker begins to inspect Kage'so boat from a distance, is there any exposed engine or similar weakness?

OOC: I feel like I didn't describe the empty ship very well - engines of any sort are virtually unheard of at this point in time, the technology is very new. This means ships usually use sails. Ryker could easily have been exposed to ship operation at some point, however.

Aside from the sail, the cog did seem to have something odd just below the water's surface, almost like a cannon flanked by a series of smaller cannons? Or a sideways pipe organ? Whatever it was didn't appear to be in use, however. It looked like something out of Verto - perhaps Dalton had connections? There were rumors that the desert city had been experimenting with some kind of engine.

Wally growls at the ignoral, practically leaping into the boat before Ryker can fully set off "HEY! Don't just-" a series of thumps and "Come on, Wally!" cuts the first man off. It looks like Ryker has a temporary crew, of sorts.

"Whoever here can stop that boat gets another free drink, any takers?"
Ryker hoped his offer would inspire the already rather drunk men. The men then pushed off the docks, stirring directly towards the quickly approaching boat.

"See! They know how it's done." The crew cheers, quickly springing into action. It appears they are not yet so filled with drink they can't manage a boat, as fortune would have it.

The ship sets sail, and manages to have moved slightly behind and to the starboard side of the out-of-control vessel by the time Darby makes his daring leap on the port side of the cog.

We now return to the present

Darby found himself grasping a rope, swinging into the water next to the out-of-control ship. What looked like a female dream sprite made up of numerous blacks, blues and purples and black-smokey clothes fluttered near him. "Do you know how to steer a ship? We can't get it to stop."

"So, any ideas boys? You think if we some how tied the two boats together and went full speed in the opposite direction we could stop it?"

"It might pull us, way it's moving." advises the elf. Some of the other crewmembers nod in agreement. The cog was the bulkier of the two vessels and had been building up momentum for a good long while. "All we need to do is get one or three of us on the other boat and handle from there." Wally motions to the other ship's sail. "The boat looks fine, your shifter friend just doesn't know how to dock it, right? So we should board it. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes."

Another member of the crew, a short man with a yellow bandana for a hat, suddenly cries out "We better speed that up!" The man frantically points at two large vessels making their way into the harbor. They're thankfully still a good distance away, but Kage's maneuvering room will soon be shrinking quite dramatically.

Darby wipes his eyes with his equally soaked hands, and blinks some water away before grabbing the rope.

"Know how? Know is a pretty strong word. I think I have a good guess about steering though."

Darby proceeds to climb the side of the boat with relative ease, using the magical stickiness of his boots. Once at the top, however, he becomes preoccupied with trying to dry out his cloak.

"Alright, well we can get you close. You jump on and do your thing."
Ryker tried to steer towards the boat, hopingredients the men'should plan would work.

Realizing the dwindling space and the soon to be present aid, he called out so those near could hear. "How I put the sail down?" He figured tis would get easier if the momentum stopped.

Kage hears several voices calling out from the behind him, yelling "Turn the winch!", "Remove the tension from the halyards!", "Let us on!", etc. It looks like several of the bar patrons are ready to leap onto the the ship from their own boat while Ryker manages steering the latter.
