Character/Ability Ideas
#1
I usually have a lot of ideas swirling about, and little motivation to attempt creating them all. So I decided to just throw them here and if anyone wants to borrow, add, or shoot any of these down, that's fine with me.

Spell Imbuement: I'm always fond of abilities like these, especially when it comes to imbuing ranged projectiles with touch spells. This sort of sounds like an Arcane Archer to me, but while the class was fun, they were always unfeasible to actually make. Anyway, this could even work for melee weapons as well--I guess it would just depend on the spell. Not sure how many minors this would count as, or if going the path of the Forged Road would be a better option.

Alchemist Aspect: When I saw the Infusion Sage, I thought it sounded similar to an Alchemist aspect. But I was thinking more of an Alchemist that could--at the very least--brew up some unstable potions and hurl them like bombs. You could even make the damage modifier on the bombs dependent on certain skills. For instance, perhaps an Alchemist gains a + modifier when taking the Appraisal or Medical and Anatomy skill, depending on the type of bomb he or she is making.

Since the crafting section is under construction, there isn't any feasible way currently to make potions to use, but it could be a possibility in the future...similar to how Infusion Sage can infuse spells into their cooking.

Inquisitor: I like the idea of a character being some sort of inquisitor/investigator/detective for the noble families--basically a spook that collected information however he or she pleased. Umbral and Adonis skills would seem pretty good, giving some illusion/dark abilities while allowing the PC to alter their appearance to trick people. Add in some Public Relations and Disguise skills, and you'd be pretty effective at getting what you want.

D&D chat: First off, there was this guy that made a base class arcane archer for D&D 3.5. It needed some fixing up, which I did (well, overhauled the whole thing), but he never updated his post on the OOTS forums. You can check that out my overhauled version here: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsingl...stcount=46
It's of a middling power level, I think, but feasible in the average game (I never playtested it though). Enchant Arrow is probably the biggest source of power for the class. It's my most... normal class I suppose. Compared to Transmorpher and 5e/3.5 Update of Ozodrin (Not Owrtho, but I was significantly involved in the original and manage the 3.5 update/5e version) at least.

As for doing abilities like that in AS, I think doing this for specific spells would be better than trying to design a reasonable ability to dump just any power on a spell. Although something could probably be worked out (it'd almost surely be more than 1 minor).

Alchemist: Problem is, folk generally don't mess around with consumable objects when they could just by permanent stuff. If you wanted to do bombs I'd probably suggest just having an ability that let you summon / create them on the spot for free.

But bombs have another issue as well - they're hard to balance if all they do is explosive force/fire/etc. If you wanted to build a bomb person I'd suggest adding not-direct-murder riders to the bombs like smoke / sticky webs / temporary summon swarm / etc.

Inquisitor: I imagine someone will do this at somepoint, yes. Smile

Wow, that Arcane Archer looks pretty good. I think Arcane Archers are fun to play, but given the requirements and what the class itself offered as I remember, it was pretty lackluster in games.

Imbuing specific spells as minors wouldn't be that bad. A telekinetic arrow could be seen as Seeker Arrow to some extent. Possibly some wind spell to give your arrows freakish sniping distance. Hmm...muy intersante.

And I see your point with the Alchemist--it would make more to have a permanent object as opposed to burning consumables. But the whole summoning the item on the spot thing doesn't sound like a bad alternative.

Hey, inquisitor is vaguely the direction Baron is headed in. He currently makes a living as an information courier, because passing on information in a daydream is pretty hard to eavesdrop on.
