The Barons' Game
#41
Jebidiah nodded along with the rules. There wasnt much he could do to set up traps. Though diverting a river might be beneficial...at the maiming part he laughed a bit. "The potentiality of maiming just means that I may have more use than I originally thought. I am a doctor, and well trained in keeping your insides and your outsides where they belong. However that order should be for your particular case. I'll sign the papers if only to get some free advertising fo my services."

"Yeah, Contracts as usual. I guess this is what I'm doing this weekend, so I might as well put my name on it. Hey, can we get something to eat first? I could really go for some quail eggs on a Torguta pilaf."

Bruce nodded at Darby. He clearly approved of the man's exquisite culinary taste. "Of course. There's a duo that sends messages deeper into the city via vital magic near the gate, I can send word for a carriage while we get something to eat."

Bruce returns his attention to the others, glancing around once more just to make sure they're all still on-board with joining the game.

Nashota had been silent since her entry, hearing nothing that would dissatisfy her since she'd settled in. She listened and nodded along, shrugging her shoulders in silent agreement.

"That sounds great. That 48 hour prep time sounds like a good way to flex some of my skills. But is there anything that we can't bring into the game? And what about our building? You said its fine as long as the flag stay in the same place, right?" Nathan said, getting a little excited about being able to toy around with a sizable area however he wants.

"What do we know about the opposing forces? With this much planning I presume they are specifically tailored to make things difficult." inquired Agnes. She had heard stories of people who could move through solid earth, people who could fly through the skies and other more fantastical abilities that could be problematic.

Bruce smiled towards Nathaniel "I like your enthusiasm! Anything that's yours should be fair game. We'll be able to provide a number of mundane supplies as well, but I must say I don't know the specifics. As for creating a fort, most things are fine for that as well. I'd suggest explaining your construction plans to the referee before carrying it out." Bruce then turned towards Agnes as he politely motioned for everyone to follow him into the inn. "Monsieur Hadrian sent word of who his team would be this morning. I know the mademoiselle's mercenary friend set out to find out what information about them they could. I can ask for more details in the message, if you'd like! Let you get thinking about how to handle them. I can't imagine any group of great repute would knowingly work for the monsieur, if we're being frank."

The inside of the inn is packed. Most of those present seemed to be native soldiers and honey collectors, although there were more than a few tables filled with foreign mercenaries and traders.

A set of signs at the door noted the ground rules, such as "Cause fights, get the beer bounty" and "You break it, you bought three of them". This continues for quite a few rules, with the last one being "Harass the waitstaff, BEES" scrawled in what hopefully isn't blood.

Bruce heads straight for a more decorated table off to the side, waving towards a half-asleep bearded fellow nursing a tall glass of some juice or another. "Ah, Javier, I need to send a message of great import to Baron Cyprien and the lord's daughter, mademoiselle Arielle." The two speak a bit further before Javier closed his eyes and presumably went to work. Bruce turned back towards the group.

"We'll have our answers shortly! Javier and his brother have somehow figured out how to maintain a commune link in their sleep, you see, and have combined it with quite the messenger network in the deeper layers of the city."

"The primary information we need is how many of them will there be. After that, if we can find out how they're armed, that's gravy. With a cherry on top. Hmmm... who do you have to kill to get service around here?"

"Service, Monsieur? I can take your order." asks the waiter standing behind Darby. The eye patch and brass knuckles might be a bit unusual, but he definitely had a waiter-ish air about him. The bald, muscular, 6' tall elven waiter whose mustache exudes authority but in a refined appropriate-for-a-waiter way slightly bows as he waits for the group to tell him their needs.

"Gravy with a cherry on top! Wait, that sounds awful. But right now I'm so hungry anything would be good. What's cheap?"
