Hayze smiled. That was just the sort of reaction he was hoping for, although it didn’t exactly answer his question. Maybe he didn’t want to tell him. Perhaps it was for the best. If the man told him where he was from, then he would probably reciprocate and ask where Hayze was from. Not a direction he wanted the conversation to go.
Maybe he should just stick to sarcasm. If he annoyed him enough, maybe they could sit here quietly, not talking. It was curious, however, that two aspected individuals had stumbled across this place. He realized his shadow was under his feet again, probably hiding from the man. Whenever it was touching him it could affect his movements and sometimes his thoughts, if it tried hard enough. The alcohol certainly didn’t help him keep control.
“Sorry.” He blurted out, surprising himself again. “Trying to fight off a migraine.” He almost didn’t know what he was saying. The shadow was certainly softening his thoughts. “Where are you from exactly?”
