Physical Description: Hayze has a slender build. He often walks looking down, trying to hide his face. His head is completely shaved and he has no other facial hair.

Apparel: Hayze wears a full suit of white including a button-up shirt with a high-collared long-sleeve overcoat, baggy pants with a thick leather belt around his waist and cloth shoes.

Backstory: Hayze was born into a world in which he did not belong. Despite an abusive father and uncles, a non-existent mother and a criminal family business, Hayze turned out to be a kind-hearted and gentle lad. His father and uncles worked hard over the years to break Hayze, to make him into something violent; useful. And although he wanted to change to be more like his family members, he found he just couldn't stomach the violence involved in the family business.

So one day, he decided that he would erase a part of himself and become something different. Through deep meditation, he suppressed memories and emotions that made him weak in his eyes. What was left was a cold, violent, nearly amoral young man, capable of any level of violent or immoral act. In the act of erasing parts of himself, he created a twin, of sorts, existing within his shadow. It retains all of his good memories and emotions along with his former good nature. Within its bounds, it acts to protect Hayze, not only from those around him but from his own amoral nature, occasionally taking over his body to prevent him from committing acts just too horrible to witness.

Despite the balance struck during his change, Hayze became something useful to the family business, his Shadowtwin only having the power to take over his body on occasion. His weapon and magic training continued, now on the job. He was used as an assassin, favoring daggers and stealth.

Recent events in Tiburon, namely the eradication of the big Crime Families there, have lead Hayze to the city. His first task is basically to assess the situation. Hayze suspects his father would like to stake his claim on the city but there may be growing threats to remove first.

Story: Long Walks Off Short Piers (5 BP) - Hayze picks up a small bounty to get a feel for the area. It turns out to be harder than expected and resorts to his more violent tactics, leaving a bit of a mess. Thereafter, he continues looking for jobs and trying to get a handle on the criminal underground.

Skills and Abilities

Aspect: Umbral Soul

Leveled Talent: Shadowtwin

Your affinity for umbral magics has granted your shadow its own sentience. As familiarity with darkness increases, your shadow becomes much much more.
Lvl 0. You have never cast any shadow except for your "true shadow", a shadow which always exists - no matter how bright or how dark it is - and cannot be illuminated. This shadow has a mind and senses of its own, and moves of its own will. Although it has a mind and personality of its own (OOC: usually defined/played by player of PC) its life is tied to yours, thus making your well being is its top concern.
Lvl 1. Your shadow can separate itself from you, traveling across any kind of surface. It may flow back to its regular – attached – location in an instant, and does so automatically if any part of it would travel farther than 50ft from your person.
Lvl 2. You and your shadow may communicate telepathically with each other. Furthermore, while two dimensional, your shadow may change its size and/or shape at will. Max triple size, min half size. If it would gain a third dimension any changes in shape and size are reverted back to their initial state.
Lvl 3. While attached to you, your shadow may reverse the connection between you and it; controlling part or all of your body like a puppet. This is not telekinesis, and any movements made have to be physically possible for your body to perform. If you and your shadow move as one your strength is effectively increased by a level. You may resist your shadow’s control if you so desire.
Lvl 4. Your shadow learns how to merge with the shadows of other creatures and objects. Merging in such a fashion gives the shadow knowledge of the physical capabilities of whatever is casting the shadow (strength, hardness, how good it is at jumping, if the door is locked, etc).
Lvl 5. You can store and retrieve non-living objects from your shadow while it is 2-dimensional, as though it were a portal to a space with 1000 cubic feet of space. Unattended objects can be slowly pulled/pushed into/out of the shadow.

Aspect: Warrior Prodigy

Leveled Talent: Stealth Tactics

Lvl 0. Wielding stealth and misdirection in battle benefits from a more general understanding of deception, and it is common for those who follow this path to be rather surreptitious. You are no exception, and thus possess the equivalent of basic stealth training.

Lvl 1. You learn how to hide weapons on your body in such a way that they are nearly undetectable and easily, quickly drawn.

Level 1
Visage - Manipulate the shadows on your face to trick the eye into misjudging your facial features.

Level 2
Sunset Blade – Summon a dagger of hardened glass to your hand, modifier 2. The dagger can glow or darken with a thought. The dagger can be of any design no larger than 10” from hilt to tip, chosen when you first learn this spell. [Dagger of Truth]

Level 3
Blur - Refract the light in a 10' radius around you, making everything indistinct and hazy, even to you.

Level 4
Encloak - By touch you can give a shadow or patch of darkness limited substance, so it will resist and slow anything that passes through it. This includes you.

Level 5
Shadow Net - Bring your hands together then shove them forwards and draw them apart, splaying your fingers. You weave a web of solid tarry darkness that flies forth and briefly ensnares a target before reverting to insubstantial shadows.

Weapons and Armor

Dagger of Truth
Hayze has a dagger that, when used to cut a person's flesh during interrogation, causes the answer to a recently asked question to appear etched on the blade. The answer is the truth to the best knowledge of the person being cut. The dagger causes no pain but causes lasting damage as any other blade. When plunged into the heart of a sentient being, any information possessed by the dying person that is valuable to the wielder appears on the blade. Often, the piece of information comes in the form of the name of a next target or a lead to follow in pursuit of some related goal. When summoned [Sunset Blade], the blade coalesces from shadow. When returned, the writing on the blade is committed to the Shadowtwin's memory.

Cloth Armor - Hayze wears a set of cloth armor, giving only limited protection but a great freedom of movement.
- Stealth Effect - Each piece of armor has the magical ability of adapting to their surroundings in color and texture, aiding in stealth. Normally a stark white, they can change to a leafy green, gritty brown or deep black, among other colors.

Cloak - Hayze's cloak is weaved with fire-proof thread and thin strands of steel, creating a flexible chain mail of sorts. The cloak, if used to block an incoming strike or projectile, will spread the force about the fabric. Blows from arrows, swords or other stabbing or slashing weapons will be translated to blunt force blows. [Minor 4]

Twin Daggers - Hayze's primary weapons are a pair of daggers, a foot in length with curved blades, wielded underhanded.

Throwing Knife - [Homebound Rune] - A throwing knife strapped to Hayze's shin. The knife can be propelled forward with mighty strength to a distance of 120'. It can also be willed back to the user with titanic force from up to 120'. [Minor 5]

Backstory is looking good! Stealth cloak is fine.


On the dagger of truth:

First, by "Man" do we mean sapient creature? Or just men? Second, this dagger can divine useful information on literally any subject through human sacrifice. Obsessed with how to make a spaceship? Well, you just have to stab enough people... sure, one could say the answers might start overlapping but I find that when one is compelled to find ways for an ability to not work as it's obviously intended to it's time to tweak the ability. Actually, I'd suggest having the answer appear written on the hilt (mostly avoid human immunity - at least the first time - and make it feel more like some sort of Body/Vital spying magic thing instead of a some sort of deific blade). For the stabbing effect, maybe have blood-like letters cover the body of the deceased, revealing any secrets they held particularly dear and anything they knew that the wielder would find of great importance.. including those the wielder might never have thought to ask. Granted, it's more morbid but sometimes the truth is quite dirty indeed.

Changed to fit your suggestions and tweaked it a little more.

I laid out my other Minors but I need some input. My grasp of how much a Minor is worth is weak. I may have gone a little overboard. Tongue
I believe I have one more Minor and 50g to use so if there's anyway to make everything work with that, that'd be great.

Hrm... I think the dagger could be 2 minors. Maybe 1.5, but having it be 2 would better fit interpreting how exactly some of those effects work more powerfully.
