Cassidy Blackwood
#1
Cassidy Blackwood
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Age: Late 20s
Height: 5’9”
Weight: Around 150-155 lbs.

Strength: Strong

Physical Description: Cassidy is taller and framed slightly larger than most women, being 5’9” and having a fair amount of slender muscular definition. Being Verto-born, her skin is a dark tan coloring that doesn’t seem to change much whether she’s in the sun or the dark for periods of time. In contrast to her dark skin, Cass’s hair color is platinum blonde—almost white, if someone wasn’t looking close enough—that extends down to rest atop her chest. Normally, Cass puts her hair up, leaving a few thick pieces to hang over her face, but doesn’t mind leaving it down when she’s not about to fight someone. Her eyes are also a contrast to her skin, being a slightly lighter shade of sky blue. Despite her life of fighting with her fists, her body is clear of any scars. Had she not had the Adonis aspect, she’d probably have quite the collection of marks.

Apparel: Cassidy wears a plain white shirt and black leather pants and boots for everyday wear, and will sometimes throw on a green leather jacket with a muted red hood. Depending on the type of fighting she’s going to be doing, Cass has two different attires. For the most mobility, she will wear an entire set of leather armor, with the exception of the leather jacket—the arms have been removed to give her more mobility of her arms. For the most durability, Cass will wear chainmail leather armor with a shortened metal cuirass that only covers the chest area along with metal pauldrons. Cass usually wears leather vambraces, but she also wears punching gauntlets for hand-to-hand combat.

Backstory: Cassidy Blackwood swears up and down that she was a man only a short period of time ago. She remembers part of a life where she was a criminal who hunted down mages to take their magical possessions and sell them. Her thinking is either she had her entire appearance changed or had her mind moved by a mage who held a grudge against her. She doesn’t remember any sort of life that she had as Cassidy Blackwood, but one or two people in Ballena recognized her and she was able to fill in some of the gaps.

This presents an interesting problem because while Cass has an issue with being female, the life that she remembers as a man was troubled—debts to be paid, foolish choices that led her down a few paths that she didn’t want to go down. So to become someone else—to be given another’s identity as she believes happened—does have an upside. On the downside, while Cass’s thoughts and some of her memories might be of when she was a man, her body is very much female. Feminine urges are creeping up on her, and while she wasn’t the sort of man that was completely against even thinking about such things—it’s very confusing to her now. Is it okay now that she’s a female? What if she becomes a man again and has those similar urges? What if she becomes a man while in the middle of an act? And don’t get Cass started on when Mother Nature visits—getting punched in the ovaries is an apt description.

Despite her lack of knowledge on her new life, her shadowtwin seems to be holding back. Truly, if anyone would know of the truth of how Cass became Cass, it would be her shadowtwin. And yet her shadow is always more reserved than Cass is—it plays coy in a very obvious way, and doesn’t seem to be too bothered by the crisis that Cass is having. If anything, the shadowtwin might agree that as Cass is now is far more enjoyable than how she was before.

But remembering that she was into some criminal activity makes it far easier for her to fall into that element. At least it’ll pay the bills for now, until she can figure out what happened to her.

Skills and Abilities

Born Fighter: Cass was born and bred a fighter. She can take a beating as well as dish one out. Her strength level increases by one. [Minor 1]

Aspect:

Umbral Soul - Transient, mesmerizing. You feel a kinship to light and shadow, the stars in the sky and the unlit depths.

Your natural talent has the following benefits:

You gain one of the following Leveled Talents: Shadowtwin. Your level in this talent is equal to the highest level umbral spell you know.
Whenever you use your spell per post to cast an umbral spell, you may simultaneously cast that spell twice instead. For example, you could cast blind on two different targets. Any other restrictions, like needed summon slots, do not change (you do not gain the ability to maintain more summons).
It takes far less effort than normal for you to learn umbral magic - you need only spend 30g per spell level to learn new umbral spells.
You can learn the highest level spells (8+) of the umbral art.

Leveled Talent:

Shadowtwin

SHADOWTWIN - Your affinity for umbral magics has granted your shadow its own sentience. As familiarity with darkness increases, your shadow becomes much much more.
Lvl 0. You have never cast any shadow except for your "true shadow", a shadow which always exists - no matter how bright or how dark it is - and cannot be illuminated. This shadow has a mind and senses of its own, and moves of its own will. Although it has a mind and personality of its own (OOC: usually defined/played by player of PC) its life is tied to yours, thus making your well being is its top concern.
Lvl 1. Your shadow can separate itself from you, traveling across any kind of surface. It may flow back to its regular – attached – location in an instant, and does so automatically if any part of it would travel farther than 50ft from your person.
Lvl 2. You and your shadow may communicate telepathically with each other. Furthermore, while two dimensional, your shadow may change its size and/or shape at will. Max triple size, min half size. If it would gain a third dimension any changes in shape and size are reverted back to their initial state.
Lvl 3. While attached to you, your shadow may reverse the connection between you and it; controlling part or all of your body like a puppet. This is not telekinesis, and any movements made have to be physically possible for your body to perform. If you and your shadow move as one your strength is effectively increased by a level. You may resist your shadow’s control if you so desire.

Aspect:

Transcendent Body - Those who gaze at world’s majesty often forget the incredible wonder that is their own ability to gaze in the first place. This wonder is not lost on you; every flex, every blink is a reminder of the grandeur that is your own form.

Your natural talent has the following benefits:
You gain one of the following Leveled Talents: Adonis. Your level in this talent is equal to the highest level Body spell you know.
You gain an additional summon slot (2->3) that can only be used for body spells.
You can use your summon slots to maintain any physical alterations made to your own body via your 2nd level or lower body spells as though they were summons.
It takes far less effort than normal for you to learn body magic - you need only spend 30g per spell level to learn new body spells.
You can learn the highest level spells (8+) of the body art.

Leveled Talent: Adonis

ADONIS - Your attunement with body magics passively alters your body, awakening your inner potential turning you into a an embodiment of physical perfection.
Lvl 0. Your skin is clear and flawless, unscarred or marked by blemish or time. You can exercise complete control over your bodily functions (heartbeat and the like).
Lvl 1. Your immune system quickly deals with any illness, disease or pathogen.
Lvl 2. Your eyes are clear and piercing, your irises a brilliant shade of their color. A sense of your choice becomes enhanced (Smell).

Weapons and Armor

Gauntlets of Shelter and Strike: These steel gauntlets (mod 4) have the ability to act as sword and shield, but with one large difference--when a gauntlet is struck, part of that attack's force is absorbed into both gauntlets, lowering the effective strength behind the attack by a level (Strong->Average, etc) and charging the gauntlets for the rest of the encounter. This absorption abilitiy continues to function even while charged, but any excess charges are lost.

> Charge Release - While charged, Cass can choose to empower her gauntlets, amplifying any blows they deal for one post. These blows hit with an additional strength level and increase the effective modifier of the gauntlets by 1 (tougher than steel). This ability is usable once every three posts and consumes the charge. [Minors 2&3]

Leather Armor: Your standard leather armor, mostly in black. Flexible, lightweight, and offering some protection.

Other Magical Possessions

Pendant of Oblivion: This obsidian pendant--usually stuffed in a pocket somewhere--allows Cass to extend the range of her shadow by an extra 50 feet. [Minor 4]

Other Mundane Possessions

Stuff: Things in a pack. Y'know, change of clothes, flint, bowls, etc.

Pets None

Gold: 80g

Looking good! We spoke a bit in the chat, but I apologize for how long its taken me to respond to the post this weekend. I've been swamped (and will likely continue to be so for a week or two).

Backstory and such is neat, I'd note that there isn't any commonly known/available magic that could pull of the permanent gender/?body? swap, but I suppose that just adds to the mystery. Tongue Let us know if you have any big plans for her past and such.

On minors:

Born Fighter: So, isn't her strength Strong Very Strong then, instead of Average? Edit: Missed extreme strength training. Looks like she paid for it, I'd still count skipping the BP requirement as ~ half a minor. I guess I could count the gauntlets as 1.5.. maybe...

Pendant: In pondering this I realized just how good shadowtwin is at spying at 50ft. Anyway, if 50ft is fine I think 100ft is fine as well (strong, but fine). I'm thinking I should specify what happens when a shadowtwin overlaps another shadow (it becomes darker / twin shows up unless the other shadow it really, really dark), which would solve the general "spy that can never be seen in most rooms" issue while still keeping it great at spying. As the only other shadowtwin user (atm) would you be fine with that?

Gauntlets of Shelter and Strike: I could approve this as-is, but might I suggest some things? It currently sounds like they just become tougher than steel when activated - which helps against cutting/piercing slashes and such but doesn't help against raw force. That might be the intent, but it speaks about absorbing the force of the attack, so I was thinking the intent might actually be more of a general protective effect? Also, I think the charge strike is currently worded to be activated when she hits something, which when RPing creates the situation where you have to go "If this hits, she activates >blah<" in combat all the time. I reworded my char Arl's Hostility Lens ability when making her because it was going to have the same issue.

Idea:
Gauntlets of Shelter and Strike: These steel gauntlets (mod 4) have the ability to act as sword and shield, but with one large difference--when a gauntlet is struck, part of that attack's force is absorbed into both gauntlets, lowering the effective strength behind the attack by a level (Strong->Average, etc) and charging the gauntlets for the rest of the encounter. These blows hit with an additional strength level and increase the effective modifier of the gauntlets by 1 (tougher than steel). This ability is usable once every three posts and consumes the charge.

^Would also lets her somewhat reduce the force of magical attacks that hit with X strength by punching them / blocking them with her gauntlets.

GOLD: I think Cass has only spent.. 280g? So with recently agreed upon Early Bird Bonus she has 130 70g left! Big Grin

Edit 2: I added 50g twice. I was finalizing the EBB at the time... >.> Thanks for catching that Sextant and Udo.

Backstory: Yeah, I wasn't sure if it was possible that there were body snatchers, but if all else fails, I was just going to lean on the fact that she's just batsh*t crazy Big Grin

Minors:

-Born Fighter would make her Strong, which I edited. I completely forgot having to pay the BP requirements to actually have Extreme Strength Training, so I fixed that one.

-The Shadowtwin edit is fine with me. Honestly, I was thinking about the pendant as something to use once the Shadowtwin was able to appear and physically alter the world--just wanted to give a bit more length to how far the shadow could operate.

-I am definitely okay with the edited description of the gauntlets you've provided, and added that into the profile. Thanks so much for that!

Aaaaand I used another 90g for an Umbral spell, pushing me into Level 3 of my Shadowtwin abilities, so I should have 40g left over. Let me know if you see anything else that needs to be changed.
