Trip to Slant Rock Isle [Past]

Kage looked to the group, shrugged, and drew his dagger. He looked around to the others to imply they should as well. Once everyone had a chance to draw what they felt they needed, he cracked the door open. Upon peeking out, he sought to get a good look at the man. "I saw you at the docks. Why didn't you approach us then?"

He made a slight growl in his throat, barely audible. He was no expert at stealth or reconnaissance, but he hadn't hoped to be seen. No matter. "It's nice to know at least one of you is observant." He responded with a smile, turning the suspicion into a compliment. "There was a lot going on. I didn't have a chance before you all left. Besides, it gave me an opportunity to make sure your party wasn't being followed by anyone else besides myself."

"And how was it that you did follow us?" Kage asked as he ignored the earlier comment.

He couldn't tell for sure through the cracked door, but he thought he was talking to the man he had watched chase after the boat, kill the young man who had stolen it and brought it back. To say the least, his nervousness was increased. However, he had learned perfect control over his bodily functions. His heartbeat and voice remained steady, his nostrils did not flare and his eyes did not dilate as he continued to lie.

"Well, I watched you leave, as you know, noting which direction you went in. After I was sure no one was following you, I set off in my own sail boat in the same direction and sailed until I spotted your ship. It's quite a memorable ship and it's docked right over there." He finished, tilting his head slightly in the ship's direction. Now that he thought about it, this would have been a perfectly acceptable way to follow them without using his special tracking technique.

Not being much of a sailor, he had no way to know how much of that was actually possible. He looked actually the group, shrugged, kept his knife out, and stepped back from the door a bit. Just enough to open it really. "Why did you want to join? And what use are you to us?" He didn't really want to bring in a free loader.

"Same as anyone else I expect: for the money." He responded simply. "I have some sailing experience, in these waters in particular. I've had one previous encounter with these Pirates and fought a few hand-to-hand." That was all he wanted to say about the instance. "And honestly, I've been waiting a long time for someone other than the local government to do something about this Pirate problem. I think this group will actually be able to make some progress in this conflict.

Dalton shrugs from his position behind the others"I suppose we could use another hand, maybe get Garza to foot the bill for one more. That said, if we get the opportunity to get the proof we're looking for and come back we'll be taking it. Would you have a problem with that, Mr. pirate hater?"

"I wouldn't expect anything more than accomplishing the job and returning safely." He responded. He hadn't meant to give the impression that he wanted to go further than the mission at hand. So much for telling the truth. But the new voice had been quite perceptive. He did hate these Pirates. And, truely, if he had a chance to confront one of them again, he would be taking it. He was pretty sure he could accomplish this without endangering the mission or anyone else's safety. But that remained to be seen.

Dalton pauses for a moment, wheels seemingly turning somewhere in his mind. He shrugs once more. "Well, I'm fine with it. What about the rest of you? I know we're a cautious lot but we're after dragons and pirates, not buried treasure."

With a smirk, Kage responded, "Sure, but he walks in front." That would at least mean he would likely get blasted first, which would serve him right for not joining with everybody else. Or at least speaking to them.
