Trip to Slant Rock Isle [Past]
#31
Kaia sighs. "Just let him in already. If there is anyone else skulking around the area shouting through a door isn't going to help us." the smoke-fairy takes a seat near one of the boarded up windows. She leans up against a slit in the barrier to sneak a glance at the man outside. Hrm. The sprite shrugs; the man outside looks fine enough (that doesn't stop her from subtly motioning for Kage to move back a bit, of course).

The oblivious Casanov finally reaches the group, the enthusiast having tied up his little ship during the hubbub. "So! Did you guys decide which way you're approaching the island from? I'm afraid I didn't have much advice to give Dalton about that, I haven't been on that island before."

Lilly had drawn a heavy looking sap of bone when Castor had first arrived at the door and was now idly swinging it from side to side. She moved towards the door and gestured with the thing for Kage to do as his sprite suggested.

"We were just about to finalise that decision when a new friend arrived. Come on in, won't you?" Lillith replied to Casanov, the last part directed through the door at Castor.

Hearing four voices of agreement and seeing the door open a bit, Castor stepped through into the warehouse. He gave a nod first to the man he had been speaking to through the door then to everyone else. "Thank you." He said.

It seemed they had been in the middle of a discussion when he had arrived. He didn't want to make them repeat anything so he would just stand by and listen as they finalized their plan.

Kage did in fact keep distance between him and Castor. When he entered, Kage closed the door and turned back to Casanov. "We figured approaching from the west and scaling the cliffs would give us the safest path onto the island."

Lilly nodded as Kage summarised their previous conversation.

"Climbing the cliff-side will probably be hard work, but they won't be expecting anyone on that side and we can likely approach undetected." she added.

He simply listened as the discussion continued. What they were saying sounded all well and good when Castor hadn't heard any of their other options. From what he remembered, there was a ship of Pirates stranded on the island. Their ship would be moored in a place from where they could access the island, so not next to a cliff. The pirates would be mostly on or near the ship, he suspected, if they were working on leaving. So approaching the island from the cliff side made a lot of sense.

There was just one detail he couldn't ignore any longer. He knew he had heard the word just moments before but it hadn't quite hit him until now. He turned to the man Dalton. "Did you say... Dragon?"

"Ah, right. There is probably a dragon hunting in the waters around the island. We're guessing it is aquatic and nocturnal, possibly wounded as well, based on its past victims and Casonov's shark watching. Casanov helpfully adds a "Sharks can smell blood in the water from miles away!" while Dalton continues."I'd like to confirm what I just said is true, and maybe learn more about its size and powers, but the current plan is to try to avoid fighting it if we can. This is a scouting and information retrieval mission."

"If that is true, I have to suggest that we take two or three ships, if possible, and spread out enough so as not to all be destroyed in one bite. But close enough that we can all engage the Dragon together if the need arises." He said. He thought also about the entire group scaling the cliffs together. "Also, until we confirm that the Dragon is bound to the water, or at least sleeping, I would not suggest the lot of us climbing a steep ocean-facing cliff for an hour or two." He finished. If there were only Pirates to worry about, that would be one thing. But the possibility of a Dragon certainly complicated things.

Lilly lifted her free hand over her shoulder and jerked a thumb towards Casanov's boat.

"I think that's all we've got in terms of transport." she said.

Dalton nods "That and my armored cog, yes." He glances towards Casanov "Although I doubt Casanov here intends to get close to the island himself; his boat would hardly be an appetizer." The hunter waves a welcoming hand towards Castor. "Unless, of course, you have another boat to lend to the cause?"
