Trip to Slant Rock Isle [Past]
#71
OOC: So, this delay was longer than intended. We've all been pretty busy and/or fending off wave of illnesses so I guess it worked out.

Anyway, anyone mind if we speed ahead a bit? Basically, DAK can just describe Lily's success (assume whatever you like, as long as its reasonable-ish enough. Gavron's pretty much fallen hook, line, and sinker and knows quite a bit. She could convince him to come along, go ahead on his own, just give info, etc). I'd like to finally reach the island, yeah? On the other hand, I'm fine playing it out if you'd prefer, I'd think of something to keep everyone else occupied.

As everyone continued their travels to the island, Kage kept quiet. He mostly conversed with Kaia to keep him company. Although, should others talk he would carry on a conversation. He couldn't wait to get to the island, as he would be one step closer to getting paid.

"I hope everybody's jaunts were as successful as mine. I found a local who not only had a good idea what kind of lizard we're dealing with, but was more than willing... to part with a handful of its feathers," Lilly said, grinning as she reclined on one side of the boat and tossed the prize towards the others.

Castor perked up at word of the Dragon. It seemed like the creature was all he could think about. He hoped he wasn't worrying over much. He took one of the feathers and looked it over. He wasn't sure what to make of it. He twirled it between his fingers as he turned back to watching the water off the side of the boat.

He had been doing this since they left shore, not hearing much of the conversations. He was listening to something else. The ocean. His Aspect came with a heightened sense of hearing. He had heard the normally inaudible sounds of whales before, much too low for the human ear to detect. He wondered if a water-dwelling dragon made similar sounds.

As a secondary hope, he pulled one of the stones out of his pocket, the one he had already memorized, and dropped it into the water. He closed his eyes and focused on the stone. It appeared in his mind quickly falling through the water. The occasional plant or fish went by.

He was hoping for more.

The rock landed on some sort of surface, but the angle of the rock pictured clearly in his mind was.. unusual. The surface it was on must be very steep. The rock slid a bit further before coming to a stop as well, suggesting a flat, smooth surface.

The western edge the island was in sight as well - the clear waters giving way to a mighty cliff dotted with caves and surrounded by countless rocks poking out of the water. The group would be as close as even Dalton's armored vessel dare approach in about two minutes.

"So, how are we crossing the rocks? I'd rather not get within ten yards of the things on the ship. You know what we have supply-wise." Dalton leaned back, seemingly wanting to see what the crew might come up with before offering his own plan into the ring. Or perhaps he just wanted some time to study Lily's haul - the man appeared to be very interested in the feather in his hand.

OOC: You can make up any supplies that make sense, have at it!

He would be fine to get himself up, but his chances of having some meat shields were greatly improved if he helped the others get up as well. He focused in on the cliff wall, and his eyes condensed with the colors focusing to a tight circle as he used telescopic vision to scout the cliff face. Then, over the next few moments as they got closer he would use Paint to mark out places he could see would make good points to anchor climbing pitons and ropes in a bright yellow that contrasted with the rocks. "Those spots I marked should hold weight. If we take the climbing gear and anchor it there, we can get a clear path up with minimal risk. I'll go first and anchor the parts in for everyone else. You may get wet, but it shouldn't be bad. Anybody got another opinion?"

He could do it, he felt, with his magics.

"Sounds like a plan." remarks Dalton, his attention increasingly focused on the feather. "We might.. have a problem though." He holds up the feather. "I'm thinking this came from a Drazil related to a mostly water arted drake.. or dragon. In fact.. all of these feathers have more in common than I'd expect from a random island population...."

Kage just raised an eyebrow at him. "Translation for us not so zoologically inclined?"

He watched the rock hit bottom on a steep slant before sliding down to a flatter area. It wasn't the bottom he had expected. There should have been sand or rocks. Obviously there was something down there. Part of a ship maybe? He was curious, but not enough to investigate further. He couldn't see how it would effect the mission.

The crew's attention turned to the island as they neared. The ship was as close as it could get and there were still rocks and cliffs to face. He could get over the rocks without an issue. But the cliff still concerned him. How could they even consider opening themselves up for attack like that with the possibility of a Dragon?

Kage's plan made sense. If he went up alone and secured a safe and relatively quick path up, then they would reduce the risk dramatically. Not only of falling but being attacked. The others could remain on the boat to keep an eye out for the lizard or even attacks from the supposed Pirate crew.

He turned his attention to Dalton. "Are you saying these feathers came from one creature?" They had already considered the possibility of a large Dragon but this was the first hint of proof.

Dalton starts to speak, but then motions for Lilith to show him the rest of the feathers "I- could that be it? Hrm.. that could explain these slicker ones.." Dalton picks out a group of feathers that look a bit tougher and longer than the rest, almost like scraps of an armored diving suit.

"I think most of these are from its children. Many of them, and far too many of them drakes. All of them mostly water art. Either there is something very strange going on in this area..." Dalton begins to slow the ship. "...or this dragon is incredibly magical. And probably huge, yes."
