Trip to Slant Rock Isle [Past]
#91
Using Visionary, Kage tried to look even further across the ledge to see what was making the noise, and if possible try and see if he can read their lips. Likely not, but he hoped.

Lilly leaned on the edge of the ship for a moment before making the leap to climb the rope. Her gloves protected her palms from the abrasiveness of the ropes but didn't make up for the fact that she was not a climber. She scrambled as fast as she could but her amateur movements caused the rope to sway every time she made forward progress.

Kage

The distant figures charging through the forest were loud enough he had no need to read lips. About five humans in all, the lot of them charging towards Kage's position at high speeds.

"Wait, we're running BACK TOWARDS THE CLIFF!" shouted a gruff figure with more axes than hands. It appeared to be a recent conundrum for him - the red-wrapped stump at the end of his left limb looked moist.

"YES! YES WE ARE!" shouted an equally gruff but less injured figure, armed with blade and a stylish runic bandanna across his brow. "Everyone get ready to jump in 6..5..

The other figures - a surprisingly quick peg-legged gal and two men surely in a dead heat to claim the title "most forgettable man in the world" - continued to speed towards Kage's location without a word.

Kage had about four seconds before the group leapt right over him.

Lily

The rope was, thankfully, well secured. At least no one else was trying to use the rope at the same ti- wait.

A brief glance, should Lily have the time for it, would reveal Dalton and the others, still near the start of the rocks and currently stuck trying to beat off a large drake. Dalton was shouting something about not cutting it? In anycase, the group didn't appear to be in any real danger but were nonetheless more than a little delayed.

Whether Lily had time for it or not she quite clearly heard the sounds of unfamiliar voices shouting from beyond the cliff's edge.

Kage liked the look of the Bandana one was wearing. Maybe he would take it. He hoisted himself above the ledge, made sure Kaia was ready to help should it be needed, then figured he would get some answers since he didn't see anything chasing them at present. With a punch, he shot out 2 Sunbeams while simultaneously casting a shield directly in the path of the bandana man. The two sunbeams were aimed just in front of the peg-girl and stump-axe. Hopefully the shot at their feet would cause them to stop running. He kept his gaze flicking to the distance they were running from in case something did show up his visionary prowess would aid his self preservation.

"What are you running from?" He figured he didn't have much time to ask a more detailed question.

Castor watched and waited as Kage scaled the shear cliff. The man was too far away for Castor to see clearly, but the speed at which he made it across the rocks and up the cliff made it clear to Castor that he was using some special abilities to do so. He should have guessed he was not the only mage on this expedition.

The climbing gear attached, Lily was the next to begin the climb. At about the same moment, two sounds from different sources came to Castor’s ears; shouting from the cliff top and a huge splash in the water next to the boat. The closer sound became Castor’s focus.

He turned to see a large Drake in the water. It was as big as any he had ever seen but much closer. He really didn’t know what to expect so he thrust out his left hand toward the creature, casting Shield between them and moved as needed to keep it there. At the same time, he pulled out his sword. Not wanting to miss an opportunity to strike and not knowing exactly how tough the creature’s hide was, he Honed his blade making it much sharper and waited to see what it would do.

Kage

The charging group ran into the sunbeams, wincing in pain but clearly far more afraid of whatever they're fleeing from than the spell-chucking shifter ahead.

Bandana attempted to dodge the shield but end up partially smashing into it. He kept going anyway, tripping to the ground but continuing to roll towards the edge.

The rest of the fleeing group likewise tried to move around Kage in their hurry to jump off a cliff.

Although the woods are thick, Kage could easily see a few hundred feet and farther still in small flashes.

Nothing appeared to be chasing the group.

Castor

Dalton yelled out another "DON'T CUT THEM. Water drake's can usually smell - oh no you don't!" while dealing with his own drake problem on the other side of the boat. A quick glance would show they had the situation under control, they had just found themselves the attention of a rather lively one.

Castor's drake, meanwhile, a wingless blue-silver lizard that looked a bit like a silver-blue feathered swan crossed with a crocodile, went to snap at his hand only to hit shield instead. It quickly sank back into the water with an angry hiss-quak. The movement of the currents, however, suggested it's next destination was some rocks a few yards away. Rocks inconveniently between the ship and the cliff...

There are other drakes in the area, but none of them seem to be getting involved or as large as the two that swam near the ship.

The drake reacted to his thrust but hit the shield instead of taking off his hand. His next thought was to slash at the drake’s neck, under the shield, but he heard Dalton yelling something from the other side of the boat.

Don’t cut them? He repeated in his mind. Dalton’s next sentence was cut off. He was saying that they could smell... something. He remembered something Casanov had said earlier about sharks. If drakes had the same sense of smell, a bleeding drake would draw more to the ship.

He held his ground, not sure how to proceed. After bouncing off Castor’s shield, the drake seemed to lose some of its fervor and swam away to the rocks.

He took the opportunity to check on Dalton and the others who seemed to be handling another drake in a similar fashion. He also looked up at the cliff to see if he could find the source of the yelling. He wondered if Kage was in trouble. At the moment, they could not safely join him on the cliff, one of the drakes having cut off their path.

"I wouldn't rush that cliff if death is what you seek to avoid. Some hungry drakes are down there waiting for a meal. At least if you talk to me I'll make your death painless should you still opt to go that way. So again, what are you running from, because I see nothing that way." He said, gesturing the way they had come. He even glanced again, flickering between filtering all the colors to see what stands out and scanned ultraviolet light too. He didn't feel like hitting them with magic again, why waste his efforts if they wanted to die?

Finding herself stuck between what sounded like confrontation ahead of her and wild drasil behind her, Lilly opted to head in the direction of the conversation. She pulled herself up along the rope towards the cliffs, but not before hurling a large phantom fireball towards the draconic interlopers.
