It was early morning when the scholarly looking man in a silk cloak with a waist length braid strode out onto north beach. He sat himself down on a flat patch of pebbles, laying down his cloak, bag and the staff that had been floating behind him. He pulled out a thick bound leather journal and began scratching notes into it with a quill.
Foothold magic triggers a reflexive generation of force magic beneath the feet. Flow allows control of quantities of water using the movements of the body without wasting magic. Could I trigger a reflexive generation of upward force from the water itself...
The rest of the page was soon filled with sigils, tables and what looked like charts. Collectively they spelled out an attempt at a prototype... And stepped straight into the sea with a large splash.
"Oh light that's cold!" the now dripping wet mage announced as he stood up, waist deep in the morning ocean.
