Nathaniel Urusade
#1
Nathaniel Urusade

Race: Bear Shifter

Gender: Male

Age: 20

Height: 6’4”- 7’0”(Anthro Form)

Weight: 220 Lbs - 300 lbs(Anthro Form)

Strength: Mighty - Prodigious(Anthro Form)

Physical Description: Has a large, stocky build, with some visible muscle. Has thick brown hair on his head, only a few inches long, messy. Has an abundance of body hair on arms, legs, and chest. Thick beard that reaches to his collar. Has golden brown eyes with hints of earthy brown. In his Monolith form, his skin is Obsidian and his eyes are clear diamonds.

Apparel: Looks like a miner. Hard leather boots with overalls and a plain shirt. His clothes hang off his body, looking a size too large, and look worn with signs of his work as a miner.

Backstory: Nathan grew up with his family in the Northern Forest mountain region. They belonged to a shifter tribe that contained 20 different families. When Nat came of age and became infused with a bear spirit, yet he he also gained a new insight of the earth. He felt a connection with the earth, similar to his bond with the earth spirit. He intuitively understands the properties of the earth around him as if it was a part of him. As the years grew on, he learned more and more of his connection with the earth, with his teacher being the ground he walked upon. As his connection grew stronger and his abilities expanded, he took on properties of the rocks. Nathaniel hid his talent from most of the village, except for the village shaman, Harmony Klondike, a wolf shifter. Harmony gave guidance to the young man and taught him how to control his abilities and how to conceal his different nature. When Nathan became 20, Harmony explained that there was nothing more she could teach him and that he should explore the world to understand more about himself and his power. Before he left, courtesy of the shaman’s advisement, the village elders granted him equipment, weapons, and supplies.

The Story Of Nathaniel:

Affiliations and Contacts: The Mining Town of Wilhelm, Shaman Harmony Klondike

Skills and Abilities

Aspect of the Bear: When Nathaniel shifts into his Bear form, is size and strength increases. Nathaniel takes on some attributes of a bear, such as obtaining a snout, gaining fur on his body, and his hands and feet become padded. His eyes dilate and gain the appearance of a bear's.[Increases strength by one] [Minor]

Aspect: Warrior Prodigy
>>You possess the equivalent of the Martial Stances and Techniques basic training (I.E. You already "completed" the training [no BP/Gold needed]).
>>You gain an additional minor. This minor must be somehow related to your LS or otherwise be physical in nature (Acrobatic ability, increased starting strength, a fighting technique, etc).
>>The number of times you need to use warrior techniques to master them is halved.
Body of a Miner A life of being a miner developes Nathaniel's muscles. Increases strength by one level. [Battle Aspect Minor]

Leveled Talent: Earth – Mountain Style - Some seek to get out of the way. You seek to get in the way instead.
Lvl 0. The first thing you need to be in the way is the ability to stay there. You possess the equivalent of strength training.
Lvl 1. You learn to be unmovable so long as both your feet are planted firmly on the ground.
Lvl 2. You master various blocking techniques that allow you to better utilize your strength; your blocking motions are effectively one strength level higher.
Lvl 3. You gain the benefits of mastering either Pillar Training and Bear Drills OR Grounding Grapple.
Lvl 4. Basic defensive techniques are second nature to you; attacking while blocking, cautious strikes, etc. do not strain on your concentration unless very elaborate blocking is involved.
Lvl 5. You become virtually impossible to knock unconscious with blows to the head and learn the correct technique for performing devastating headbutts.
Lvl 6. Learn to effectively redirect striking attacks safely towards the ground so long as they have no upwards momentum. This move grows less likely to succeed against a specific enemy the more often you use it against them.
Lvl 7. Your shoves, pulls and grapples gain yet another effective level of strength so long as you remain mostly stationary.
Lvl 8. Once per encounter you can channel all your strength and all the force of an opponent's attack/charge into one throw of incredible strength in the direction of your choice. Less likely to work against cautious foes, virtually certain to work against lunging/charging ones.
Lvl 9. You are a master of beating down your enemies, each impact from fist or foot induces a sense of increasing vertigo. You are able to effortlessly incorporate shoving, pulling and/or tripping into your attacks.
Lvl 10. You develop a custom, staff approved technique that represents your personal take on this style.
Martial Stances and Techniques
Anyone can swing a sword, but a true warrior cultivates an intrinsic understanding of the underlying motions. Most warriors are somewhat specialized, as an axe is quite different from a longsword, but this training is assumed to generally cover your needs. If you want to RP learning different weapon types separately, by all means, go for it. But there is no additional gold/BP cost.

Extreme Strength Training
As the name implies. Increases strength by one level.

Aspect: Earth Bound Sturdy as the mountain, strong as steel. You are tied to the earth and it to you, providing a sense of patience and sturdiness unmatched by others.
>>Once per post you can cast a 2nd level or lower Earth spell without it counting towards your spells per post. You cannot use this to cast more than two spells in a post, even if you have other abilities that let you cast extra spells (e.g. If you have both Storm Called and Earth Bound you can't cast a spell, a bonus storm spell, and a bonus earth spell in the same post because 3 > 2).
>>The size/volume/etc your earth spells with limitations measured in feet is increased by 50%. For example, the maximum length of your stoneblade spell would be 6' instead of 4' and your sandstorm spell would have a 75' radius instead of 50'.
>>It takes far less effort than normal for you to learn earth magic - you need only spend 30g per spell level to learn new earth spells.

Leveled Talent: Earth - Monolith - Your attunement to earth magics passively alters your body, steeling your inner core and turning you into an embodiment of implacable stone. You can suppress some or all of these changes whenever you desire, although you cannot cast spells while doing so.

Lvl 0. Your skin is either marble smooth or stoney rough. You can differentiate different kinds of rock/soil with a touch (up to 5' from point of contact)
Lvl 1. Your skin is the color of the variety of stone of your choice. You cannot be stunned or knocked unconscious by head trauma.
Lvl 2. Your irises take on the appearance of the crystal or rock of your choice. You can sense ground-based movements within 30’ of you through vibrations in the ground.
Lvl 3. Your base strength level increases by one.
Lvl 4. Your hair and nails become razor sharp and metallic.
Lvl 5. Your bones become metal and much harder to break, as well as channeling electricity harmlessly through you.
Lvl 6. Your body's rigidity prevents outside forces from influencing it. You gain immunity to outside magics that would directly alter your body and your connection to the earth means you cannot be moved if you do not wish it.
Lvl 7. Your skin becomes living stone and you grow a foot taller.
Lvl 8. Choose any one simple or basic art rune. Thrice per encounter you can cause the chosen rune to appear all over your body, granting you the benefit of the rune as though you were an enchanted object for a single post. Some rune choices might not be possible and/or sane. You can change the chosen rune whenever you learn a new earth spell.
Lvl 9. Twice per encounter you can root yourself to the ground and turn yourself into a true monolith of immobile, unmovable, indestructible stone, completely aware but incapable of movement. Can only last for three posts.
Lvl 10. You learn to harness your attunement for a custom ability based on your personality and earth.
King of the Deep - Nathaniel's connection to the earth is more social than most, connecting him with a retinue of craftsmen eager shape the earth around him. Whether these craftsmen are truly ghosts, or simply a fragment of Nathaniel's own spirit, is unknown.
>> Miner Retinue - Nathaniel can, with 10 minutes of focus, summon a group of 8 intangible, nearly transparent miners armed with picks and shovels. The silent miners can only interact with unattended earthen materials, are of Strong strength, and disperse if anything forcefully strikes them. The miner spirits work diligently and can follow complex and/or vague instructions, but refuse to use their skills for anything other than construction. The spirits cannot move farther than 50' from Nathaniel and take 2 summon slots to maintain.
>> The King's Call - Whenever Nathaniel achieves a new, even level of Monolith (2,4,6,8,10) he gains access to additional kinds craftsman spirits that he may summon in any combination whenever he summons his retinue. All craftsman spirits refuse to use their skills for anything other than construction. Furthermore, the maximum number of spirits Nathaniel may summon and maintain at the same time increases by four whenever he gains an odd level in Monolith.
>>> Level 0 - Miners - As above. The miners can also utilize any non-magical, mining-related skills Nathaniel possesses. (4 Spirits)
>>> Level 1 - Enhanced Retinue (8 Spirits)
>>> Level 2 - Apprentice Masons - Ghostly masons capable of more advanced, if novice, construction work. They posses all of the tools needed to work soil, stone, and mortar (should any suitable material be available). The masons can also utilize any non-magical, masonry-related skills Nathaniel possesses. (8 Spirits) [2 Minors]
Spells
Align - Focus on the iron in your body to find magnetic north.
Render – Your hands can mold non-magical, non-living stone as if it were clay, and can will parts of it to stick to your hands (protecting them) while this effect is maintained
Ferropathy - While maintained, you gain an awareness of metals within 10' of you and their movements.
Stoneshot - Stomp a foot on the ground to cause a chunk of stone or compacted earth to erupt into the air before you. By gesturing in a direction while the stone is in midair you can launch it in that direction. (Stone cannot be more than a foot in diameter, shape chosen on learning, must be blunt)

Ignite - Snap your finger to cause a very small intense burst of heat in a spot you are looking at. Can be used to start a small fire if used on highly flammable materials.
Filter - Wave your hand over up to a gallon of water to remove any minor impurities from it. Cannot undo potions, effect would be unpredictable.
Grow - Rapidly accelerate the growth of a plant or seed by the equivalent of several months.

Weapons and Armor
Pick of the Mountain - A pick made from a sturdy, worn-looking steel. This pick is one that has a strong connection with Nathaniel.
>> Aspect Devotion - The powers of the Pick of the Mountain may only be activated by a wielder in possession of an Earth Aspect, whether or not they are aware of their own powers.
>> Earth Resonance - The pick can be used as a conduit for Earth spells as though it were a limb.
[del]>> Mineral Binding - The pick can powerfully cling to any earthen material it has been driven into until the wielder desires otherwise. The clinging effect is of Mighty strength.[/del] (unnecessary with his incredible strength)
>> Devour Earth - Upon striking an unattended, non-magical stone or earthen surface, the pick can be willed to absorb up to 10 cubic feet of material. The area effected can be any rough shape within a maximum range of 10'. Up to 1000 cubic feet worth of material can be stored within the pick in this way. Absorbing material in this way takes a spell per post.
>> Mountain Formation - With 30 minutes of concentration the material stored within the pick can be released and roughly shaped within a 20' radius, taking the form of a nearly invisible brown fog that solidifies over time. Material released this way remains attuned to the pick for 12 hours, allowing up to 100 cubic feet of it to be re-absorbed by the pick with each strike instead of 10.
>>Pick Focus - Nathaniel has heavily specialized in the use of picks - his current martial stances and techniques training do not apply to more general weapon use outside of wielding pick-like weapons and unarmed combat, and expanding his training to include such weapons would be similar to learning the technique from scratch (100gp but only the BP needed is halved).

Currently, that's a solid character. Spells- I would say some earth, at least lvl 2 for the vibe of changes i got from your backstory. I would recommend Tread and Ferropathy for concept if going for minimal magic. Maybe grab some fire to boost the early parts of your warrior side.

Minors, I'm feeling like some kind of enchanted pick that he slowly built and infused as he gained his powers. Maybe some ability to hear whispers from the earth.

Great work btw in designing your first character!

Weapons and Armor Pick of the Mountain This pick is one that has a strong connection with Nathaniel. It can be used as a conduit for his Earth based magics. It also has the ability to assist in climbing almost any surface. It also holds combat capabilities and can be used to mine and dig with Nathan's earth abilities.
Deep Miner's Overalls These trousers contain an enveloping rune so as to contain any materials or objects Nathan wishes to hold

That is all I can think of to put with my character. For my remaining minors and gold, I'll find out what it would go to during my initial stage of RP.

How do you imagine the "assist in climbing almost any surface" ability working? It's probably fine, just trying to imagine what it is doing. For the pick in general, I'm not sure if that description is saying "this is a sturdy pick that can channel earth magic, here are some examples of things that makes it good at" or if it is "this is a sturdy pick that can channel earth magic, and also has several abilities to be defined at a later point".

Also, agreed everything else is looking good! I am very fine with the remaining minors and such being decided later.

The pick is attracted to minerals and rocks, making it difficult for it to get dislodged on accident. It can also dig out small areas using a spell slot. The space can be a max of 50 squared feet. Its abilities can only be used by those with an Earth aspect, otherwise its just a normal pick.

Hrm, what is the intent of the digging ability? I mean, is it intended to be usable in combat? I'd suggest wordings for it but.. well I suppose I can do so anyway. Tongue

Are either of these along the line of what you're thinking?:

A)
> By striking an unattended stone or earthen surface with the pick, the wielder can send out a shockwave that breaks ordinary rock and soil into a tiny dust cloud. Up to 10 cubic feet can be transformed in the way, and the area effected can be any shape within a maximum range of 15'. Using this ability takes a spell per post.

B)
> By striking the ground with the pick, the wielder can create a shockwave that breaks apart the surrounding landscape, transforming ordinary earth and soil into a tiny dust cloud. The shockwave effects a 10' radius from point of contact and is an inch deep, although the wielder can freely effect a smaller/shallower area. Using this ability takes a spell per post.

I was thinking along the lines of A). It could be used to make safe areas to camp out at. So instead of making camp above ground, Nathan could make a cave/underground bunker whenever he needs to camp. It could also be useful in a handful of occasions.

Thinking about it, a tiny dust cloud wouldn't make sense, and a big one would be pretty strong... that said, if the intent is more out of combat perhaps have the pick be:

Pick of the Mountain - A pick made from a sturdy, worn-looking steel. This pick is one that has a strong connection with Nathaniel.
>> Aspect Devotion - The powers of the Pick of the Mountain may only be activated by a wielder in possession of an Earth Aspect, whether or not they are aware of their own powers.
>> Earth Resonance - The pick can be used as a conduit for Earth spells as though it were a limb.
>> Mineral Binding - The pick can powerfully cling to any earthen material it has been driven into until the wielder desires otherwise. The clinging effect is of Mighty strength.

-----
-----

10 cubic feet is a little more than 2'x2'x2', and 1000 is 10'x10'x10'.

I think the pick, as above would be.. 2 minors.

That sounds great. I was thinking about using my other two minors to create an ability for Nathan. Another out of combat one because I see him as more of a protector than anything else.
King of the Deep - As Nathaniel grows in power, so to does his influence over the earth around him.
>>King's Dominion Nathaniel can control the structure within a predetermined area. Area must be clearly defined beforehand with some kind of markers or borders. Takes and hour of concentration to initiate changes. Takes constant concentration throughout the process. Radius of area is limited to 10 multiplied by the earth level talent.

...or something along those lines

Hrm.. the use of markers makes it harder to destroy buildings with the ability. It could possibly be fine? Although, even with a more conservative interpretation it opens up the potential to sneak around a building at level 10, set up markers, then go outside and demolish it by removing all or part of the foundation.

I'd need to ponder it a bit. Alternately, it could be something like:

King of the Deep - Nathaniel's connection to the earth is more social than most, connecting him with a retinue of craftsmen eager shape the earth around him. Whether these craftsmen are truly ghosts, or simply a fragment of Nathaniel's own spirit, is unknown.
>> Miner Retinue - Nathaniel can, with 10 minutes of focus, summon a group of 8 intangible, nearly transparent miners armed with picks and shovels.
